Izzy H - Therapy Assistant
Izzy H- Lara, Geelong, Bellarine
What are your hobbies outside of working?
I love to spend time with family and friends. I also love to take care of myself in the form of health and fitness as well as playing netball in the winter! I lovvve exploring and trying new things, especially in terms of new tasty foods. I am also an Occupational Therapy student at Deakin, so I love indulging in my own education and learning all things OT!
How do you connect with young people?
I am massive on finding common ground and using the things we love (or maybe don’t love!) to build a relationship with students. I have worked with children of varying ages and have a lot of experience working with children in both an education and casual setting. I like to prioritise building a trusting and compassionate relationship to allow students to feel supported and safe.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was incredibly cheeky and if you ask my parents, maybe even a tad devious… Luckily, I grew out of this and found my confidence in all things sport! As a young girl I really struggled in social situations, especially if it was new, which is something I still really have to work on now. All of this started to make a lot more sense when I was diagnosed with anxiety at the end of Primary School. I was unbelievably lucky to have such an amazing family and support system to raise me to be independent, confident (even when it’s hard), and driven.
