Jaime J - Disability Support Worker
Wyndham Vale, Lara, Geelong
Jaime has lived experience of Neurodivergence, and is currently studying in university.
What are your hobbies outside of working?
I like to spent time with my pets Ethyl (Guinea Pig) and my dog Titania. I am a big animal lover!
I am a big homebody, so I like to unwind by binge watching my favourite TV shows, reading books, colouring in, and listening to music for hours on end.
How do you connect with young people?
As a Neurodivergent person myself, I remember how overwhelming the world can be and how big our feelings can feel (including now!). Being able to empathise and validate the intense emotions that come from trying to tackle a world that wasn’t designed for us is so important. Also, recognising that the ability to feel the way we feel can be channelled into so many great passions and special interests!
What were you like growing up?
I was described as always ‘being in my own little world’. I could entertain myself for hours on end, and I found the stories I would make up in my head way more interesting than anything any other kid had to offer! I would read for hours and finish most novels in a day, books music and drawings and more solitary activities were my safe haven, & I’m still the same person today!
