Keisha H - Disability Support Worker
Keisha H - Lara, Geelong, Bellarine
What are your hobbies outside of working?
I love learning new things, whether that be through a book, going to a museum, meeting different people or trying something new. Outside of work I spend majority of my time with my family, I have lots of nieces and nephews so I love hanging out with them.
How do you connect with young people?
I always strive to be understanding, patient, kind and open minded when engaging with young people. Neurodiverse perspectives are so important and I believe should be championed, which begins with me. Being a young person is hard enough at the best of times and I always try to be empathetic of that by remembering my own struggles during that time.
What were you like growing up?
My mum’s favourite story to tell is that as a child I always made it my mission to look after my twin brother and any other younger kids I encountered. I was always very protective, confident, outspoken and a bit of a perfectionist, sometimes to a fault. I loved to play sports and tried a heap of different ones throughout my childhood but fell in love with Netball and Soccer.
