Ollie K - Disability Support Worker

Western Suburbs - Melbourne

What are your hobbies outside of working?

They fluctuate often, I find myself to be quite the hobby hoarder as I really do just want to try and learn everything that’s available to me. My most recent hobbies have been bouldering, skateboarding, Roblox and free diving!

How do you connect with young people?

I find connecting with young neurodivergent folk to be quite
seamless for me. As a young neurodivergent person myself, I
find it easy (ish, I’m not sure that I’ll ever truly understand
what skibidi is!) to connect to other young people. Growing up
with Minecraft, Youtube, ABC3 and social media, alongside still
playing those games and others like Roblox has helped me to
stay connected to the younger generations. I also have a lot of younger cousins who keep me on my toes.

What were you like growing up?

Always curious and wondering, ready to push the boundaries to discover the “what, when, where and why” of everything and anything. I was very imaginative, energetic and expressive, but more often than not felt left out or ‘othered’ in social settings. I struggled to maintain connections with people my age for a long time, and didn’t really find my place until I created more neuro affirming spaces for myself, and connected with other people just like me.
